Denton Gardening Club Open Show History

DGC Show History

The Club was founded in 1996 following a meeting of the initial committee on the 9th October. The first meeting for members was on 19th November.
The first Show was held on Saturday 13th September 1997.

The format of the Show has stayed much the same every year but there has been some variation in the classes to allow for a July or September date. Those held in July are noted below.

• 2023
  

  The very successful Show was held on September 2nd.
  There were 70 entrants and 446 entries.

• 2022
  

  Held on September 3rd, it was feared that, due to the amazingly dry summer, no serious rain in Denton for two months prior to the show, show entries would be seriously impacted.
  How wrong could you be - Denton's gardeners were not going to let that little problem hold them back!
  No less than 61 Competitors took part, making 414 Entries across the Classes.
  Then, over 100 people turned up in the afternoon to admire their handiwork.

  Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 Emergency, both the 2020 and 2021 Shows had to be cancelled.

  This year a new trophy was introduced in memory of Sandie Jones. It is for the best single bloom in the Show.
  It was won, with a wonderful dahlia, by Doris Lambert.

  At the end of the prize-giving ceremony Anne Carden, the outgoing Club Chairman, was presented with a stained-glass representation of the Club's logo in recognition of her long and distinguished service.

  A new Championship Trophy was awarded for the first time this year. Replacing the original Overall Show Trophy (which had run out of space to record the winners) it was purchased with funds provided from a Denton Cabaret Evening.
