The last Last Friday of 2026 was celebrated in great style last night.
The Village Hall was packed and, what is thought to be a record, no less than 93 Suppers served.
The meal, prepared by Sandra and Colin, Bronwen and John, and Lyn, was excellent – many thanks to them and other willing helpers.
However, one of the best bit of news, for those who did not rush off after the meal, was that there was no need to put the tables and chairs away, as they would be needed for Saturday's Halloween celebrations!
Denton Village Hall was packed with players last night and, despite the best efforts of storm Boelo the intrepid folk of Denton were not going to be denied their Beetle Drive. Five great and exciting games were played then the power went off.
Betty Wilby in the kitchen declared supper ready so we paused for Bangers and Mash while a plan was formulated.
Not to be deterred, the fantastic emergency lighting came on, and, with battery side lights provided by the Cooper family, seven more games were completed, with Doris Lambert running out overall winner.
This was a great community evening with over 80 years spanning the youngest to the oldest player.
Thank you to Emily and Joseph Batchelor for manning the door and the raffle, Neil for the bar, Betty and Jean for supper, and Sarah Batchelor for organising.
The Village Hall was busy last night with twelve teams contesting the Quiz Night held to support Christian Aid.
It was a close-run competition, with just seven points separating the top five teams.
The winners were "The Naughty Corner" with 188 points. They comprised - Malcolm Ball, Gill Hipwell, Lucy Mann, Pip Moss, Lu & Daryl Osborne and Pauline Townsend.
In second place were "Take 5" with 185 points and third place was shared between "We Thought It Was Speed-Dating" and "In The Ball-Park" with 182.
As usual the Wooden Spoon was awarded to the, unnamed, team who recorded the lowest score..
Perhaps another prize should go to the team with the most imaginative name?
Yet again, thanks must be recorded to Denise and Peter Grant for organising such a fun event, and to those responsible for providing an excellent supper.
