Denton a village in South Norfolk, England

A Competitive Year

Despite the restrictions of the Covid Emergency, there were a wide range of Competitions, of various kinds, held during the year, These included -

  • Snowman Building.
A brief period of snow in mid January generated a competition for younger residents. Who could build the best snowman (or should it be "snowperson")?
Twelve constructions appeared. They were judged by Denton residents in an on-line poll and the Barretts of Wash Cottage, Danacre Road, declared the winners.
The wining entry, and all the others, can be seen Here.
  • The Gap.
Things were very quiet for a while and the annual Gardening Club Summer Show had to be cancelled. But things really improved during the autumn.
  • Cyder Production.
The Black Hand Cyder Club abandoned production in 2020 but this year the normal programme of Foraging and Pressing was organised.
A highlight of the second stage was a competition to state the total volume of cyder produced over the club's twenty year existence. The winning entry, from Adam Lascelles, at 6,500 gallons, was remarkably close to the correct total of 6,823 gallons.
  • Darts.
A Charity Darts Competition was held was held in early December to raise funds for the Big C and Greyhound Rescue. Thev winner wuth the highest score was Dave Godsmark.
  • Bingo.
The Christmas season in Denton got off to its traditional start with a Bingo Night at the Village Hall. A great evening was enjoyed by everyone who attended.
  • Christmas Trees.
This charity competition, for the best decorated Christmas Tree, was actually held in Alburgh Church. However, a number of Denton residents took part and, most importantly, the first prize, again based on a poll of viewers, went to the tree decorated by members of Denton Gardening Club.
