Denton Parish Council
Draft Minutes of the Parish Council Meeting held on Tuesday 12th May 2026 at 8pm in Denton Village Hall.
Present: Cllr Hanner; Chairman, Cllr Fearnley, Cllr Sida-Page, Cllr Bunn, Cllr Edwards.
Also present: Mrs J Loveday (Clerk), 6 members of the public.
1. To elect the Chairman;
Cllr Sida Page proposed Cllr Bunn, seconded Cllr Hanner. Cllr Bunn agreed to take on this role and signed the declaration of office.
2. To elect the Vice Chairman;
Cllr Sida Page proposed Cllr Kerr, seconded Cllr Hanner. Cllr Kerr agreed to take on the role.
3. To receive apologies from members unable to attend:
None.
4. To receive Declarations of Interest from members on matters on the agenda:
Cllr Sida Page declared an interest in item 11 – Planning
5. To approve and sign the Minutes of the Last Meeting
The minutes of the meeting held on Tuesday, 10th March 2026 were approved and signed by Cllr Bunn; Chairman, as a correct record.
6. Open Forum for Public Participation (maximum 10 minutes):
None.
7. To discuss Matters Arising from the Minutes of the last meeting which are not on the agenda:
None.
8. To receive reports from County Councillor and District Councillor:
We have received an email introduction from our new County Councillor for the Waveney Valley Division George Boyd.
9. To receive Updates on items from the Minutes of the Last Meeting:
Anglian Water sewer problem
Cllr Sida Page has emailed Anglian Water and reported it as a health hazard to the Environmental agency. They said they would come out and look at it. Cllr Sida Page will chase.
10. To receive Playingfield Report:
Cllr Hanner did inspection. All was in good order. The shelter needs felting which Cllr Hanner will do.
We should start sorting the Coal Shed in June. The Rogerson Trust have put £200 towards this and we will use our CIL money.
NGF Play have been and carried out an inspection on the wooden Fort. The plans are available for everyone to see.
It was agreed that we will get another 2 quotes. We would need to raise nearly £30,000 which we will look at grants for from The Community Action Fund and the National Lottery.
Dogs have been seen on the playing field. It was agreed to put on Denton Talk that dogs are not allowed on football pitch or play area.
11. To discuss and comment on planning applications received and related matters:
Ref: 2026/1123, Land West of Darrow Green Farm, Darrow Green Road, Denton.
Notification for Prior Approval for a proposed change of use and associated building works of agricultural barn to residential.
SNC Decisions received:
- Ref: 2026/0539, Watch House, Trunch Hill, Denton. Approval with Conditions.
- Ref: 2025/1046, The Old Dairy, Darrow Green Road, Denton. Proposed Village Convenience Store – Approval with Conditions.
- Ref: 2026/0266, Old School House, Trunch Hill, Denton. Approval with Conditions.
12. Finance: To approve payments to be made:
Payments:
- Clerk Ssalary for 2 months £326.88.
- Burial Ground £230.00
- Insurance Renewal £874.85.
- Norfolk Parish Training & Support. Annual Subscription £72.00
- South Norfolk Council Precept £5,000
13. To Approve the Annual Governance Statement 2025/26, the Accounting Statements and Certificate of Exemption for submission to the external auditor.
The annual accounts had previously been distributed to councillors prior to the meeting. All approved.
The certificate of exemption was completed and signed to be sent to the external auditors.
The clerk will arrange for the internal audit to be carried out and statements to be completed.
14. Any Other Business.
None.
15. To agree items for the next meeting be held on Tuesday, 14th July.
