Denton Parish Council
Draft Minutes of the Parish Council Meeting held at 7.30 pm. on Tuesday 8th July 2025 in Denton Village Hall.
Present: Cllr Hanner; Chairman, Cllr Fearnley, Cllr Sida-Page, Cllr Ashton, Cllr Bunn, Cllr Kerr, Cllr Edwards.
Also present: Cllr Brown: District Councillor and Mrs J Loveday (Clerk),
1. Cllr Hanner welcomed all to the meeting.
2. To receive apologies from members unable to attend:
None,
3. To receive declarations of interest from members on matters on the agenda:
None.
4. To approve and sign the minutes of the last meeting:
The minutes of the meeting held on Tuesday, 13th May 2025 were approved and signed by Cllr Hanner; Chairman, as a correct record.
5. Open Forum for public participation (maximum 10 minutes):
An opportunity to hear from members of the public -
The applicants of the planning application for the proposed village convenience store at The Old Dairy, Darrow Green Road, Denton were in attendance and explained the reasons for wanting to open a shop.
All councillors support this application. We will write a letter of support to South Norfolk.
6. To discuss matters arising from the minutes of the last meeting which are not on the agenda:
We will organise an estimate for the damage to the village sign to send to Sainsbury’s.
7. To receive reports from County Councillor and District Councillor:
Cllr Brown, District Councillor, reported:
- Progressing on the Unitary authority plans, lots of discussions have taken place.
- Full Council meeting was held yesterday. 2 supplementary planning documents were agreed. Village clusters were finally agreed.
- Member Ward funding is now available for this year.
- Query on soft plastic recycling – this is nothing South Norfolk can do.
8. To receive updates on items from the minutes of the last meeting:
Broadband in the village -
No further update.
Sale of the Elite Major Shredder -
An invoice has been sent to the buyers. To date we have received half the money, Cllr Hanner will chase the remainder.
Saffron Housing Parking -
Cllr Sida Page and Cllr Hanner will get together to organise this.
Anglian Water sewer problem -
Emailed Environment agency – no reply as yet. This will be chased.
9. To receive Playingfield report and results of inspection. To discuss any developments on sorting the Coal House:
The Working party was held on 31st May and lots of repairs were carried out.
Cllr Sida Page did inspection.
There are a few jobs that need to be attended to:
The hedges need cutting, shelter roof felt needs repairing, willow structure needs a trim. Climbing wall is looking a bit shabby. Wobble board needs some repair.
We will look in to replacing the Wooden structure and any funds for replacing this.
The Coal House contents need sorting and the shed needs some repairs.
A meeting of the Rogerson Trust, has been held and they have agreed to contribute up to £200 for repairs. It was agreed we would use our remaining CIL money for this.
The gate needs repairing. This will be looked in to.
10. To discuss Health and Safety Policies:
Cllr Edwards has prepared these and will email to the clerk for forwarding to all councillors.
11. To discuss and comment on planning applications received and related matters:
Ref: 2025/1046: Proposed Village Convenience Store. Discussed as above.
12. To approve the continuation of the following policies: Standing Orders and Financial Regulations:
These have been emailed to all councillors prior to the meeting. All were happy for these to be approved.
13. Consultation of East Pye Solar:
Statutory Consultation will run until 6 August 2025. Information has been supplied to all councillors.
Discussions followed and it was agreed that we would respond with our reasons why we are opposed to the proposals. Copy of letter will be available if anyone wishes to view.
14. South Norfolk CIL payments – to complete return to 31.3.25:
It was agreed that we would put our CIL money of £150.00 towards the village sign repair and repainting.
15. Finance: To approve payments to be made and record money received:
Payments:
- Clerk salary £243.68 for 2 months pay.
- Rospa Play Safety – Annual inspection £139.20
- ICO Data Protection Fee £52.00
- £250.00 from Mr Grant for Sale of Elite Shredder
16. Any Other Business.
Hedges are over-hanging at Church Hill. Cllr Hanner will speak to home owners.
17. To agree items for the next meeting.
None at this time. Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, 9th September at 7.30pm.
