Denton a village in South Norfolk, England

Thursday Coffee Club

When the Village Post Office closed back in 1991 a once-a-week sub-office was established on Thursday mornings in the Vestry of the Chapel. One benefit was the provision of teas and coffees for customers and yet anothe Denton social facility was born.

Sadly, the Sub Post Office closed in 2021 but the Coffee Club carried on with a regular clientelle.
One highlight is the provision of delicious cakes supplied every week by participants, Another is the recognition of members' birthdays, but only one candle on a small piece of cake has to be blown out.
In good weather members can sit outside.

In March 2025 the Club was three years old and a Report on its activities issued. This covered:
"So far we have purchased -

  • 8 chairs
  • 1 table
  • 1 parasol and stand,
    for use at the Chapel.
And
  • 2 goal posts for the Playing Field
  • 1 bench at White House Corner
  • 2 benches, new this year, in the Millennium Wood.
We have also -
  • Sponsored the plants at the Village Hall including a Christmas tree, all beautifully cared for by Sarah.
  • Made donations to The Rising Stars and a charity close to Ian and Pia.
  • Paid for the redecorating of the Chapel in (the least we could do really) beautifully done by Lucy Hanner with the paint donated by Terry.
Finally we have consumed (approx numbers only) -
  • Packets of biscuits 155
  • Cakes 257
  • Teabags 780
  • Teaspoons of sugar 1248
  • Jars of coffee 155
  • Jars of hot chocolate 36"

And long may it continue!
