Ping, Pong and Ball Return

No, not the Ninjas from the recent DVC production, but the Annual Denton Table Tennis Tournament held at the Village Hall on Friday, and, as usual, brilliantly organised by Steve and Annie Whiteman.
There were some welcome ‘firsts’, some new faces, a new table - don’t worry Terry’s 1950’s table still stands - and the debut of a card reader behind the bar!
But when it came to the competitive part of the evening, old rivalries took centre stage as four previous winners battled in one of the closest ladies’ contests seen for years, with Janet Howman, Andrea Fitzgerald and Doris Lambert narrowly beaten by Mia McDonald in a series of high scoring games. Gary McDonald made sure the silverware stays in the same house when he beat Blake in the men’s final after each of them had finished top of their respective group.
A good time was had by all and a vote of thanks to Peter Grant who helped assemble the new table. With the lighter evenings, hopefully the outside table - with bats and balls provided within its structure - will be used more frequently; there is a top-up supply of balls behind the bar if needed.
