Cromer Here We Come!

At long last, the Government has announced details of its decision regarding Local Government Reorganisation in Norfolk.

Three options had been proposed for splitting the County into one, two, or three Unitary Authorities to replace the current County and District Councils. The Government has gone for three UAs, with parts of South Norfolk going into each of the three.

Denton has been allocated to the East Norfolk UA. As well as the bulk of South Norfolk, this will cover Great Yarmouth, most of Broadland and the whole of the North Norfolk District, which includes Cromer.

Elections to the new Councils will be held, on a caretaker basis, in May next year and they will take over from the current Councils in May 2028.

More Shop News

Denton has really hit the headlines with coverage of the Village Shop decision, already reported below, in today's EDP.

First a mention, with a picture of Karen and Paul, at the top of Page 1. Then a long article across two pages, 8 and 9, with four pictures. including a lovely one of Terry and Kath, and a picture of the old shop at Chapel Corner. This is the same picture that appears on the Village Website. It can be seen Here.

This follows a visit by EDP staff to last Thursday's meeting of the Coffee Club.

A Shop for Denton

Planning Reversal. Guidance from the Planning Officers at South Norfolk Council has been rejected by members of the Council's Planning Committee.

At a meeting held on March 11th Councillors ignored the views of the officers and voted, unanimously, in favour of permission for their new shop in Darrow Green Road. Paul and Karen Wilby, the applicants, spoke in favour of the scheme and Committee members responded.

Ping, Pong and Ball Return

No, not the Ninjas from the recent DVC production, but the Annual Denton Table Tennis Tournament held at the Village Hall on Friday, and, as usual, brilliantly organised by Steve and Annie Whiteman.

There were some welcome ‘firsts’, some new faces, a new table - don’t worry Terry’s 1950’s table still stands - and the debut of a card reader behind the bar! A real break-through.

But when it came to the competitive part of the evening, old rivalries took centre stage as four previous winners battled in one of the closest ladies’ contests seen for years, with Janet Howman, Andrea Fitzgerald and Doris Lambert narrowly beaten by Mia McDonald in a series of high scoring games. Gary McDonald made sure the silverware stays in the same house when he beat Blake in the men’s final after each of them had finished top of their respective group.

A good time was had by all and a vote of thanks to Peter Grant who helped assemble the new table. With the lighter evenings, hopefully the outside table - with bats and balls provided within its structure - will be used more frequently; there is a top-up supply of balls behind the bar if needed.
