Pressing Matters

This year's Apple Pressing Day, held by the Black Hand Cyder Society at Great Green Farm on Saturday, was a great success.

Local apple trees had produced a bumper crop with 3.75 tonnes of fruit collected and high quality juice in abundance. As a result 1280 litres, 281 gallons, were produced. This included, for the first time, some Quince juice.

A highlight of the day was the presentation, by the Society's Treasurer Richard Gedge, to our wonderful hosts, Gill and Adrian Hipwell, of a very suitable gift, a carved wooden box in the shape of an apple, to celebrate the 25th holding of the event.

Quiz Report

Saturday night’s Quiz at the Village Hall, in aid of Christion Aid, raised a magnificent £414.

There were 60 attendees, making up 8 teams. The winners were 'All Quizzed Out', the runners up (only 2 pts behind) were ‘You What?’ and the wooden spoon went to 'The Saints'.

Thanks must go to everyone involved the event, producing the excellent food etc., but most of all to Quizmistress, Denise Grant, and to her Assistant, Peter.

One bonus was the announcement of two, provisional dates for next year’s Quizes to be held on February 7th and October 17th. Put them in your diary now.

Details of previous events can be found in the History Section.

Guy Fawkes Is Coming

Details of Denton's traditional celebration of Bonfire Night have been announced.
This year's event will take place at the Village Hall on Friday, 7th November.

One change from previous celebrations is that attendees will not be encouraged to bring a firework with them. The Hall Management Committee is purchasing a complete set and organising the display.

The Pizza Night previously organised for the 7th has been cancelled but Hot Dogs will be served and, of course, the Bar will be open.

Indian Success

Everyone who attended last night’s Indian Theme Night at the Village Hall had a wonderful time.

The food, Indian of course, was varied and excellent. The entertainment, a suitable ethnic Dance Group from Norwich, was colourful and graceful. Well done those who joined in for the final session.

The non-raffle, how many Indian cities are there?, had some excellent prizes. But, of course, it was the company of local residents that really made the evening.

Congratulations must go to everyone who dressed appropriately and to all those who worked so hard, in the kitchen and behind the bar, to make the event so successful.

Nearly £600 was raised, to be split between the Village Hall and Prostate Cancer Research.
