Denton Remembers

Denton played its part in today's celebrations of the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, the end of the Second World War.

More than thirty local residents attended the ceremony on the Playing Field to unveil a Plaque next to a tree, a Black Poplar, planted on the North side of the field.
This tree had originally been planted back in 1995 to commemorate the part played by soldiers from this parish in the war against Japan.

Johnnie Carslake, along with Peter Grant and Terry Hanner, had retrieved the original Plaque and made a new, shiny metal replacement.
The ceremony included readings and a dedication from Rev’d Chris Hutton. Everyone there recognised the great sacrifices made by those involved in the conflict, many of whom did not return.
