Denton a village in South Norfolk, England

Welcome
to Denton Village Hall

Information for Users

We hope you will enjoy using our Hall whether you are part of a group that uses it regularly or this is just a one-off party or event.

We have tried to make our Hall welcoming, well-equipped and practical. We let it at modest rates to Denton residents and those with a connection to our village rather than as a commercial venture. Our Caretaker cleans weekly and will also pop in to check the Hall once or twice during the week but the Hall is let on the understanding that all users, regular and occasional, clear up after their use and leave the Hall as they would hope to find it, as it is not practical to arrange cleaning between each let. Thank you in advance for supporting us with this.

Most things in the hall are self-explanatory but below there is some information that first time users might find helpful and which will serve as a useful reminder to regular bookers.

Health and Safety

We aim to provide a healthy and safe environment for all Hall users. Please ensure that you are familiar with the location of the fire extinguishers and fire doors and exits which are to be kept clear at all times. Also, if you bring any portable electrical appliances into the building please make sure they have a valid certificate stating they have been tested and approved for use within the last year.

First Aid

The First Aid kit can be found hanging on the wall beside the door that leads to the stage. Please record any accidents on the Accident Forms which can be found on the window sill at the stage end of the kitchen. There is also a defibrillator on the outside wall by the main door (Code C1267).

Heating

The various parts of the Hall can be heated using the electric heaters installed in suitable locations. These are linked to cash collecting meters, one for each part of the Hall. There is also an electric stove in the bar.

Heaters for the main hall are supplied by a meter at the back of the stage, accessed from the lobby between the kitchen and the main extension. This meter takes £1 and £2 coins. Check that the individual switches by each heater in the hall are turned on to make sure they will heat up. The meter for the Committee Room is also at the back of the stage and takes £1 coins.

The heaters in the bar are supplied by the meter in the lobby between the bar and the toilets. This takes £1 coins.

The wall mounted heaters are set at 20C. Please do not adjust them. They take a while to heat up so in cold weather it is advisable to turn on the heaters an hour or so in advance. Please make sure doors are closed to rooms you are not heating and if you are not using the stage please keep the curtains closed, to avoid heat loss.

Alcohol

Please note that private hirers are not allowed to sell alcohol.

Kitchen Equipment

Users are welcome to use any of the equipment in the kitchen and please ensure that all relevant food, health and hygiene regulations are followed.

There are separate instructions for the cooker, microwave and dishwasher. There are two separate switches for water heaters; one by the dishwasher and one in the back right hand corner of the kitchen. Switching on both should give a plentiful supply of hot water.

There are two bins – one for recycling (which must be clean, e.g. no dirty paper plates/tins/jars) and one for rubbish. The kitchen is well equipped with crockery and cutlery, pans and dishes, etc.

Furniture

Tables can be found in the storeroom behind the stage. Chairs are kept in the storeroom in the snooker room and the storeroom off the rear lobby through the kitchen. There is a trolley to help move them into the main hall. Please do not move the blue/grey furniture in the Committee Room elsewhere in the Hall.

When your event is over and before you leave the Hall, please:

  • Make sure everything in the Hall is left clean and tidy and put back where you found it. Cleaning equipment can be found under the sink in the kitchen or in the Caretaker’s cupboard off the lobby by the kitchen.
  • If the floors are messy, the Hoover can be found in the Caretaker’s cupboard, along with sweeping brushes.
  • Take away any decorations and party goods such as balloons.
  • Remove any unused food – please don’t leave anything in the fridges.
  • If you have filled the bins in the kitchen please remove the rubbish and recycling and put in the outside bins which are behind the Hall by the Committee Room. Recycling should be loose and not in bags. You will find bags to reline the bins in the Caretaker’s cupboard.
  • If you have used a lot of tea towels or tablecloths and they are dirty we would be grateful if you would take them home and return them clean to the Hall within a few days. If you have only used one or two tea towels please leave them spread out on the side in the kitchen.
  • Check all the toilets are flushed clean. (The Caretaker has had the odd nasty surprise!)
  • Switch off all lights and heaters – including the kitchen water heaters, the ones outside the main hall, toilets and on the stage by the meters, which are easy to overlook.
  • Make sure all windows are closed and all doors are shut and locked.

Afterwards

Please ensure the Hall key is returned promptly.

If there has been any failure of Hall equipment or damage to the structure, fixtures, fittings or contents of the Hall please contact the Bookings Secretary as soon as possible.
