Ernest Catchpole
1903 – 1986.

Ernie died peacefully in West Norwich Hospital on 18th January 1986 aged 84 years. He had suffered for many years with arthritis and had been almost housebound.

He moved from Yarmouth as a young lad to live with his Aunt and Uncle at Rose Cottage, Denton. He loved gardening and was a keen member of the old Denton cricket club. Ernie worked for 3 generations of the Skinner family and was presented with an award at the Royal Norfolk Show for 49 years’ service to one family. His craftsmanship in hedge layering was much admired in his day. In Sidge’s Lane he planted the Oak trees that are so lovely now.

He is at rest in Denton churchyard, near his brother and Aunt, a peaceful place to end for a dear friend.

Our sympathy to his stepdaughter, niece and to his very good friend, Mrs. Frost, who cared for him so many years.
