Clothing and Textile Recycling

Denton now has a Scope charity clothing and textile bin situated next to the glass bottle bins in the Mini Recycling Area at the Playing Field.

Some of the clothes will be sold in Britain. Other items will be exported to Africa and Eastern Europe. These are very carefully selected by the exporters (who are always licensed), so that unusable material is not sent out, only to be clogging up landfill or heaps of waste in these countries.

The remaining items that are not good enough for clothing are sold to industry and used as industrial wipes or are flocked and used in car dashboards. The only items that are discarded at the end of the process are buttons and zips.

Funds from the sale of the clothing will be used to help people that are suffering from Cerebral Palsy.

You can help by discarding your unwanted garments and textiles in the bin

Denton Gardening Club September Report

The outing took place on 18th July with a visit to Mickfield Water Gardens, a well established specialist garden near Debenham in Suffolk. A small group made the trip and were rewarded with an excellent evening. The weather was kind and after a most enjoyable wander round and much plant purchasing we were treated to some lovely biscuits and coffee. Sadly this was to be the last time these gardens will open.

The August meeting on Tuesday 15th August was a stroll through a few of the smaller gardens belonging to some of our members. What these gardens lacked in size they more than made up for in the interest, variety and quality of plants and landscaping. We started at Ron and Maureen Phillips, then went next door to John and Val Carslake, on to Barry and Betty Burroughs before finishing with coffee and biscuits at John and Jennie Crohill's. It was an enjoyable and fascinating evening and many thanks go to those who so kindly opened their gardens for us.

The next event is the Autumn Show on Saturday 16th September. This is an Open Show and you do not have to be a member of the gardening club to enter. In the usual Denton spirit it is the taking part that is important not the winning. There should be a class to suit everyone including such things as cookery (with a special class for men), flower arrangements, paintings and photographs as well as the usual flower and vegetable classes. So come along, have a go this year and join in the fun. Schedules are available from Anne Carden and Adele Godsmark or here on the website - Show Schedule

The Autumn/Winter session of meetings starts at Denton Village Hall on Tuesday 17th October at 7.30pm with a talk on The Magic of a Garden in October by Ben Potterton. Don't miss this talk by one of the rising stars of the gardening world.
