Denton Gardening Club October Report

Our annual Open Produce Show in September was again a great success. With almost 40 individuals entering over 50 classes the village hall really did look wonderful. Entries were up on last year and the quality and quantity exceptional for the very unusual summer that we have experienced. The flower entries were slightly down on previous years but with the extraordinary weather we've experienced this year it was a lovely display.

As always the flower arrangements were wonderful and shows what talent there is around the village. In the domestic classes this year the men's class was for a treacle tart. Several entries were put forward and the comment from our judge was in full praise of the quality of the pastry! - so congratulations to all those who entered. A special thanks to our judges who gave up their Saturday and a huge Thank You to everyone who supported this event.

Winners of the various classes this year were:

Denton Parish Council October News

At our September meeting the Clerk reported that new street name plates would be in place by the end of September. The village sign is to be repaired and repainted. The triangle at the junction of Darrow Green Road and Norwich Road still causes problems to large vehicles that turn right out of Norwich Road and the Clerk was asked to write to Highways to ask them to remove the triangle and improve the junction. The councillors are still very concerned that some people drive through the village too fast. The Parish Council have asked for a 30mph speed limit, but this has been denied. It was therefore decided to ask the NCAPTC to put forward a resolution at their AGM on 4th November, that ‘Norfolk should adopt the same policy as Suffolk and have a standard speed limit of 30mph through all villages’. We hope that this will also be discussed at the joint parish meeting in November. The Clerk was asked to write to Norfolk County Council regarding the cancellation of the early morning bus from Denton to Bungay. This service was used by local children to get to school and parents feel that their right to choose which school their children attend is being denied. Bungay is also the only local school that offers a sixth form facility which local children could attend if there was a bus service to take them there.

On Wednesday 18th October we have asked the Energy Saving Trust to give us a presentation on how we can save energy in our homes. This will be a 30 minute presentation and there will be a free low energy light bulb for each person attending. After that there will be a presentation from Local Crime:Community Scheme; a magistrate and probation officer will give us a flavour of how sentencing works and what options are available to those that pass sentence. This will be a very interesting evening and is open to the public, starting at 7.30pm. Please come along. Refreshments will be served at the end of the evening.

Our next parish council meeting will be on Tuesday 10th at 7.30pm, please come along.
