Denton Parish Council November News
Posted 9th November 2006
At our meeting in October the Chairman welcomed Alan Burrell, County Councillor, and two members of the public. It was decided to ask for help to weed and carry out maintenance on the Play Area from the village and the Clerk was asked to put up a poster at the Village Hall asking for volunteers. A letter had been received from the Highways Dept. responding to our concerns about the triangle between Norwich Road and Darrow Green Road. This junction is difficult to negotiate for large vehicles when turning right and it was thought that the removal of the triangle would improve the safety of the junction. The Highways have agreed to do this. The foundation for the Shelter on the Playing Field has been laid and the building will commence shortly. A letter had been received from the Transport Co-ordinator at Norfolk County Council regarding the cessation of the early morning bus from Denton to Bungay. This bus service was stopped earlier this year and the Parish Council had written to Norfolk County Council stating its concerns that this bus was cancelled without consultation and has caused a problem for some parents getting their children to school in Bungay. The letter said that only 2 or 3 passengers used this bus and a decision was made to withdraw and that when the County Council subsidises public transport it is essential to meet the needs of as many people as possible. The Parish Council was not satisfied with this response and decided to send a further letter to Norfolk County Council regarding this matter.
The budget figures for 2007 were circulated and discussed and it was agreed that the precept should be increased by £100. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday November 14th at 8pm in the Village Hall. Everybody welcome

Denton Gardening Club November Report
Posted 9th November 2006
It seems impossible but our winter season has now started again! Still with warm sunny days and the garden looking almost as green as in the spring, it's hard to believe it's time to head up to the village hall for our monthly meeting. But what a way to start the season!
Our guest speaker was Ben Potterton from the Blacksmith Cottage Nurseries at Rushall. He brought along some of his most colouful autumn plants to show us how much colour we could still have in our gardens at this time of the year. Ben is now quite a celebrity in the gardening world and throughout his talk he gave us some amusing anecdotes of what goes on in the National Show circles.
Next month our meeting will be on 21st November when Allen Barson will be getting to grips with pruning, he has visited the club before and is a most entertaining speaker. We look forward to our December meeting when we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary with an evening dinner at the village hall on Tuesday 19th December. New members are always welcome, so if you are new to the area, please do join us at 7.30pm at Denton village hall on the third Tuesday each month.
Cyder Pressing
Posted 9th November 2006
Many thanks to all those who supplied apples to the annual Denton Blackhand Cyder Society pressing day. We broke our previous record by a long way producing 614 gallons of juice. This is all now fermenting well!
