Waste & Recycling
Recycling & Rubbish Collection
All homes in Denton now have two bins provided by South Norfolk District Council. The green recycling bin is collected one week and the grey rubbish bin the next, in an alternate week cycle. The normal collection day for Denton is a Tuesday or, following a Bank Holiday, a Wednesday. Full details of collection times and what to put in which bin can be found on South Norfolk District Councils Website
Mini Recycling Centre
Denton has a Mini Recycling Centre to be found in the car park adjoining the playing field. This centre takes glass (green, brown and clear) as this can't be placed in your green bin.
Recycling
The parish council receives payments on behalf of the Playing Field from South Norfolk District Council for every tonne of recyclable material collected and this money, to date, has helped pay for new equipment on the playing field.
Denton Community Composting
The Denton Community Composting scheme for 2006 has its first collection on Sunday 23rd April and the last collection on Sunday 29th October. Households who contributed garden waste the previous year will automatically receive a leaflet setting out conditions for this year along with their eight bags.
For those who are new to the village and might like to participate, the scheme runs over the summer with the help of many willing volunteers who give up their time on a Sunday evening to collect garden waste and deliver to the site. As the scheme is primarily aimed at those with smaller gardens who find it difficult to make room for their own compost bins, a maximum of eight bags per houehold are allocated. Other volunteers weigh and mix the material in compost bins, turn, sieve and bag finished compost ready for distribution. In our first year the finished product proved very popular and was free of charge. Now the committee have decided that volunteers will be offered five free bags of compost and the rest will be sold at 50p per bag to put towards the costs involoved in running the scheme.
Extra volunteers are always welcomed and wanted. The aim now is to draw up a rota for the various jobs which need to be done. If everyone could spare just one or two hours a month, it would spread the load. It really is a case of many hands make light work, and it can even be quite fun!
Over the first two years of the scheme over £1400 was made for village funds. This helped projects in the village such as painting the chapel and the playing field project, so it is definitely a very worthwhile community service.
