Feature - Denton Gardening Club Open Autumn Show

Denton Village Hall - Saturday, 16th September 2006 2:30pm

A chance for everyone - including members friends and villagers, to enter something and to fill the village hall with wonderful flowers, produce and cooking. The schedule of classes is available below or from Anne Carden (788279) or Janet Skinner (788207). Entries can be staged between 9:30 and 12:00. After the hall is closed for judging we will open again to visitors with teas, raffle and an auction late afternoon. If every member entered at least a couple of things - what a display we would have.

Flower Classes

Grant Trophy (Exhibitors are asked to supply their own simple containers)

  1. 01 - 3 stems of Chrysanthemums, any variety
  2. 02 - 3 Dahlias, mixed or one variety
  3. 03 - Jug of Roses, mixed or one variety, max 5 stems
  4. 04 - 1 Scented Rose
  5. 05 - 3 stems of Rudbeckia, single or mixed
  6. 06 - 3 stems of Penstemons, single or mixed variety
  7. 07 - Jug of mixed Foliage, minimum of 4 varieties
  8. 08 - Vase of different Perennials, minimum of 3 varieties
  9. 09 - Jug of Herbs, minimum of 3 varieties
  10. 10 - Foliage House Plant
  11. 11 - Fuchsia in a Pot
  12. 12 - 3 stems of Sedum, mixed or single variety
  13. 13 - Single Flower Head, large and as perfect as can be found

Vegetable and Fruit Classes

Skinner Trophy (Paper plates will be available for staging but are not cumpulsory)

  1. 14 - 5 Potatoes, one variety
  2. 15 - Heaviest Potato
  3. 16 - 3 Carrots
  4. 17 - 3 Onions
  5. 18 - 5 Shallots
  6. 19 - 6 Runner Beans
  7. 20 - 6 French Beans
  8. 21 - 5 Cherry Tomatoes
  9. 22 - 5 Tomatoes, other
  10. 23 - 3 Courgettes
  11. 24 - 3 Red Beetroot
  12. 25 - 5 Cooking Apples
  13. 26 - 5 Eating Apples
  14. 27 - 5 Plums, one variety
  15. 28 - Plate of Autumn Fruit, not apples or plums
  16. 29 - Vegetable Box. Max size 10" x 15" with minimum of 4 varieties
  17. 30 - Squash, any variety
  18. 31 - Salad Basket, minimum 3 varieties
  19. 32 - Any Vegetable not in the schedule

  9. 41 - 1 Jar of Pickles
  10. 42 - 6 Eggs
  11. 43 - A Jug of Summer Drink (non-alcoholic)
  12. 44 - Gentleman's Class - Treacle Tart

Decorative Classes

Charnick Trophy (Flowers may be purchased for these classes)

  1. 45 - Foliage Arrangement in a Basket
  2. 46 - Arrangement in an Egg Cup, max 12cm
  3. 47 - Table Arrangement suitable for the Queen's 80th Birthday
  4. 48 - A Photograph of a local countryside scene
  5. 49 - Four Photographs with an animal theme
  6. 50 - Sketch of a building

The organisers have discretion to move exhibits after staging if necessary.

Children's Classes 14 Years and Under

  1. 51 - A Potato Print

Regulations For Exhibitors

All classes are open to anyone eligible for the class. All exhibits must be the bona-fide produce of the exhibitor, excluding decorative classes.

The decision of the judges is final. The committee, in consultation with the judges, may withold any prize in any class and award prizes at their discretion.

Entry Fees

The entry fee is 10p per class except children's classes, which are free

Trophies

Trophies will be awarded to the Club member with the most points in each category. The overall Show Trophy, which is open to all, will be presented to the entrant with the highest total points.

Points
  1. 1st - 5 points
  2. 2nd - 4 points
  3. 3rd - 3 points

1 point will also be awarded for each class entered.

Prizes
  1. 1st - 35p
  2. 2nd - 20p
  3. 3rd - 10p

All entry forms, duly completed and accompanied by the total entrance fee, should be handed in by 7pm on Thursday 14th September. Although late entries may be accepted on the day, it would be much appreciated if entries could be in by the designated time. All exhibits must be staged ready for the judges between 9:00am and 11:45am on Saturday morning.

Doors will close between 12 noon and 2:30pm for judging.

Doors open to the public at 2:30pm. Teas will be served. Exhibitors who do not wish their produce to be auctioned will be asked to remove them before the auction. Please do not remove them until requested.
