Denton Variety Club & The Rising Stars
We are a village based group going back to the Second World War and earlier as a concert party, but formed in our present format 22 years ago. The adult group stages a show which spans three nights in mid-February. Rehearsals for both shows begin about 6 to 8 weeks before show date and a great deal of fun is had by all.
The “D.V.C.” as we call it, is held together by a small committee who meet before each show and two or three times during the year. The AGM is held in April at which everyone interested in being on-stage or wishing to be backstage crew, is welcome. Also watch out for posters around the village and in the parish magazine. “Don't have stage fright - come along for a really good time”. We have a junior section called the Rising Stars for young people up to the age of 16. It was set up to encourage children of any age up to 16 in drama and music. Several people have undertaken to run the club and at present the baton has been passed to Angela Fenessy and Denise Grant. They put on one show a year, usually in the autumn term and all Denton children are welcome, and parents are encouraged to become involved. The show is usually performed in front of a paying audience, two evenings in mid November, the details of which appear in the Parish News.
